Kentucky Konnection History
On November 2, 1999 a fellow Kentuckian, Don Ecton, started a State Club which would offer its members the opportunity to meet and interact with others from the Commonwealth of Kentucky now living in The Villages.

The first meeting was held at Paradise Center with 36 people attending.  The initial officers were Don Ecton - President,  Jay Lester - Vice President, Doris Holt - Secretary, and Bernie Meyer - Treasurer.  Succeeding Presidents were Wayne Bierman, Jim Rowe, Irene Tye, John Stovall, Don Sandefur, Larry Readnour, Jim Brockman, Jim Berryman,  Drew Harrington, Larry Seiple, David Sawyer, & Clint Hamm.  Our current president is Sally King.  The meeting location moved from Paradise Center to Hacienda Recreation Center, then 7 years later to Bacall Recreation Center.

Meetings have been social, informative and have included varied entertainment.  Annual programs include, but are not limited to: our Anniversary Dinner, Christmas Pot Luck, June Picnic, Ice Cream Social, Chili Cook Off, and our big Derby Party.

The club has always supported charity projects such as furnishing a room and a brick for the Hospice House, providing food for the Christian Food Pantry, toys for children, a substantial gift to Make a Wish Foundation and more recently, Christmas gifts for needy families through the Salvation Army.

In 2000 we participated in the Villages Christmas Parade receiving 5th place and in 2001, receiving 2nd place.  We have had many other activities including monthly golf tournaments, bocceball, polo tailgate parties, UK at Florida football games, UL at South Florida basketball games, and the annual UK vs UL football and basketball games.

The club has taken trips to Dixie Stampede, Pasa Fino Horse Farm, Orange Blossom Opry, Lakeridge Winery, Cedar Key Seafood Festival, Austin Carriage Museum, Dora Canal tour, Mt. Dora Craft Fair, and Kennedy Space Center.  Members have also gone on the Casino Cruise Ship and cruised to Mexico and the Carribean.

With the growth of the Villages, we hope that the club will continue to grow. We know there are many opportunities for social involvement here in the Villages.  But by becoming involved and encouraging your Kentucky friends to help , we can make this club the envy of The Villages.
